Ready to bend over backwards — but, you know, in a way that feels good? Join us for a fun and supportive three-hour workshop where we’ll dive deep into the world of backbends with a mix of anatomical know-how, breath-led movement, and a whole lot of heart (and hips, and glutes).
Designed for those with an existing yoga practice — whether you’re flowing through Vinyasa, following your Ashtanga count, or somewhere in between — this workshop is all about exploring backbends safely, intelligently, and with a sense of ease. We’ll unravel the mystery behind those chest-opening poses, working through progressions that make the big shapes feel a little less intimidating and a lot more doable.
Expect a mix of movement, play and pause. We’ll explore the foundations of healthy backbending, learning what to engage and what to let go of (spoiler alert: it’s probably your jaw and your glutes in equal measure), and discover how small tweaks in alignment can transform your practice entirely. Along the way, we’ll be using props, walls, and maybe even each other for support — because sometimes yoga really is a team sport.
We’ll also connect breath with movement to create more space and ease, and sprinkle in some mindfulness so that you’re not just bending your body, but shifting your perspective too. Because at the heart of it, backbends aren’t just about flexibility — they’re about softening into strength, staying open even when things feel a bit wobbly, and trusting yourself in the process.
This workshop is open to all styles of practice, but not suitable for complete beginners. If you’ve got a spine, a regular yoga habit, and a bit of curiosity, you’re very welcome. You’ll leave feeling more informed, more confident, and quite possibly a few centimetres taller. (Not scientifically proven. But it definitely feels that way.)
